Edinburgh Napier University will be launching a new postgraduate MSc Social Work programme in January 2019 but one with a difference!

Alongside Social Work, the university will introduce equivalent Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy MSc programmes. The three courses will have a strong focus on Health and Social Care integration, with joint teaching across some of the modules. The aim is for students to complete these courses with a sound understanding of integrated working, while also having strong professional identities. It is a considerable challenge, but an exciting one, which fits well with current policy direction.

Susanne Goetzold says "We currently have a staff team working on the framework which will support the three programmes, including the design of an outline curriculum and academic calendar. We have been consulting with a broad range of professionals and service users already – amongst them, a number of practice educators - but there is always so much more wisdom to tap into.  One aspect we are particularly keen on finding out more about is what would make life easier for Practice Teachers and how we could best support them with placements.  We would quite like to get as much as possible right from the start."

If you would like to contribute to the consultation or are interested in contributing to aspects of the programme development and/or delivery, please contact Dr Peter Yates P.Yates@napier.ac.uk

Napier are also keen to link up with independent practice educators, so that they can build up a list of those who would consider supporting Edinburgh Napier students. Although the courses will be based in Edinburgh, placements are likely to cover a wide geographical area. If you would be interested in supporting these practice placements, please contact Susanne Goetzold on S.Goetzold@napier.ac.uk
