ScOPT currently operates as an Unincorporated Association, a perfectly legitimate organisational format, but one with some limitations. As an Unincorporated Association, ScOPT has no legal personality and cannot enter into any contracts or transactions. This means it is individual committee members who do so on ScOPT's behalf and also have personal liability. We are proposing a change of legal status to Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) and this will be considered at the AGM on 18th November. If we do decide to become a SCIO, a new constitution will also be required. A proposed constitution is attached here ScOPT SCIO constitution for you to consider prior to the AGM.
