SSKS kicks off 2019 with some new developments in accessing their online library and e-learning sessions to support your use of the library resources. Read about their “On the Road” workshops to support groups of learners and learning facilitators to use their resources and plan to invite them to run a workshop with your community of practice:

Redesigned SSKS Library Search

From March 2019 SSKS Library Search will be the new homepage of SSKS. Our web address,, will be redirected to take you directly to the Library Search.

The rationale for this change is twofold

  1. Our unique offering to the social care sector in Scotland is our subscription resources (books, journals and articles).
  2. Other organisations in this sector such as the Care Inspectorate, Iriss and SSSC provide access to other sources of information including policy, legislation and service improvement.

To support this development, we have redesigned the SSKS Library Search. This includes:

  • A prominent link to the Care Inspectorate Hub which includes a National Social Services Search (searching resources from the Care Inspectorate, IRISS & SSSC).
  • A menu of links to additional sources of information, including social services related databases, links to library services and help and training on using SSKS Library. This content will now be hosted on The Knowledge Network at
  • A footer with links to the SSKS newsletter and SSKS Twitter.

Visit our help and training pages for advice on finding and accessing journals and e-books using the updated SSKS library search.  You can also sign up for one of our SSKS Online Training sessions here. See below for dates in 2019.

NHS Education for Scotland: Support Around Death

The NHS Education for Scotland website Support Around Death aims to support health and social care professionals working with patients, carers and families before, at, and after death.  The SAD team have now produced 5 new short animations to facilitate conversations around death and bereavement.

Check out their video wall  and accompanying leaflets which are aimed at helping healthcare professionals discuss dying openly and honestly with patients.

SSKS is on the Road

Now that we have launched our new website, why not take this opportunity to invite us along to your organisation to provide some training.  Sessions can include a live demonstration of the new SSKS Library Search, exercises and expert search tips, and help to sign up for a Scotland NHS OpenAthens account.  If this sounds like something you are interested in, please email to arrange a date.
