‘Innovation in Practice Learning and Field Education’ – 12th International Conference on Practice Teaching and Field Education in Health and Social Work

This is a major international conference of interest to anyone involved with the professional development of students in any field of health or social care.

The importance of learning in practice to health and social care professional education and training has long been recognised. Supporting students in practice settings is an integral part of the preparation of health and social care professionals. Practice and Field Educators enable students to acquire, develop, apply and transfer educational knowledge, skills and attributes to support their learning within the workplace learning environment.

The workplace offers an ideal learning environment to ensure learning is grounded in reality and is firmly practice based. The practice / clinical teachers who facilitate such learning face many challenges. The world of health and social care is complex and constantly changing; students not only have to develop competencies for uni-professional practice, but must learn and work together collaboratively; resources and time are limited and practitioners are often stretched and feel unsupported. Practice Educators have to be able to seek out and plan learning opportunities, but must also be able to identify and use opportunistic learning occasions. They have to be flexible and innovative in their approaches.

This 12th international conference on practice teaching and field education in health and social work focuses on innovation in learning in practice.

The following are themes relevant to the conference as guidance but we welcome novel proposals relevant to the overall theme of the conference.
