This free event is of particular interest to those working in the Tayforth area. It is being jointly facilitated by the University of Dundee and Angus, Dundee, Fife, and Perth and Kinross Councils to Celebrate 50 years of Social Work in Scotland. It offers an opportunity for local Practice Educators, practitioners, students and academics to come together and share knowledge and views about Social Work practice but is open to all.
This event is being held to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968 and will include a time to celebrate, reflect on the journey so far and look to the future. Guest Speakers will include Colin Turbett, (Author of "50 Years of Community Social Work in Scotland"), Professor Alan Baird (Former Chief Social Work Advisor to the Scottish Government), Claire Ferrier (Newly Qualified Social Worker, winner of the Jo Campling Memorial Essay Prize), and Jane Martin (Chief Social Work Officer, Dundee City Council).
The event will also see the launch of "Talking Social Work", a new Tayside and Fife Professional Forum for anyone in with an interest in Social Work. The forum will give Social Workers the opportunity to discuss and debate key ideas that inform professional Social Work practice. There will be an opportunity to discuss the remit of the forum, future discussion topics and what you might be able to contribute. Light refreshments will be served from 4pm.
